The Answer
The short version
Short answer: You need an admissions consultant if census is soft while marketing spend is steady, you cannot state your answer rate or VOB rate, leads die without follow-up, after-hours calls go unanswered, marketing and admissions blame each other, or admits cannot be traced to sources. You do not need one if your funnel is measured, healthy against baseline, and the constraint is genuinely demand, then the money belongs in marketing, not consulting.
The Six Signs
When the answer is yes
- →Census is soft while spend is steady, the leak is conversion, not demand
- →You cannot state your answer rate or VOB rate, unmeasured funnels are leaking funnels
- →Leads die silently, no cadence, no SLA timers, no follow-up discipline
- →Nights and weekends are unowned, a third of demand rings into nothing
- →Marketing and admissions blame each other, nobody can see whose leak it is
- →No admit traces to a source, budget decisions are guesses
And when it is no
If the funnel is instrumented, every stage beats your baseline, and inquiries, not conversion, are the constraint, you have a demand problem. Spend on marketing, not on consulting you do not need.
What Changes
What a consultant actually does
The engagement pattern: audit the funnel with real recordings and CRM data, fix coverage and workflow first (fastest admits), install training and QA, and leave behind dashboards and an operating rhythm your team owns. The measure of a good consultant is that the machine runs without them.
